A complete guide on how to choose and wear a maxi skirt in 2017

I have already tried to wear midi skirts (here and here) and now decided to give a try to a maxi skirt. It was a great experience because I learned that you can wear a maxi skirt even though you aren’t particularly tall.  This said, however, choosing a maxi skirt can be really tricky if you are a petite girl/woman as you have to pay attention to more details. In the following article you can find 4 styling tips I suggest you to consider when buying a maxi skirt.

1.The Length of the maxi skirt

Yes, the right length is key to looking attractive in a maxi skirt. You have to analyse it in the mirror and walk around in it to see if it is comfortable. A great tip is to try different styles as sometimes, the length differs although you pick the same size.

I have to admit I partly regret buying this dress online because I did not have the possibility to try it. As you have probably noticed, it is quite flouncy and I think that it is not very flattering for my type of figure because it slightly adds weight. Therefore, next time, I’ll go for a classic pleated maxi skirt that will probably suit me better. Moreover, it is a bit too long so for my height (170 cm). I should have ordered the size EU 34 instead of EU 36 but with a pair of high heels, it doesn’t look bad 😉

2. Matching

Think about a matching top. You certainly don’t want to buy it and have nothing to pair it with. A flowing skirt like the one I am wearing looks good with a crop top which creates a lovely contrast. If it were the other way around, therefore if you were to buy a tight skirt, a loose top would be perfect. Oh, and in most of the cases, you can finish the look with a belt. The maxi skirt I am wearing already has one which I tied in a bow at the back.

3. Patterns

You have probably noticed that I never mix patterns, trying to emphasise only one piece of clothing. Imagine this skirt paired with a striped top, ugh! seems ugly to me…

4.Fabrics for a maxi skirt

I did some research and according to some websites, the best fabrics for maxi skirts are cotton, silk chiffon and rayon. The skirt I bought has a nice satin fabric which I wholly appreciate.
